Chapter 82 - Owen's First Few Years

Owen felt that his first few years as head of the family had gone well.

He had got himself a administration job at the local town hall under Nichole River, one of the members of his vast River family.

She had been very good to him and as he had worked hard and shown himself eager she had promoted him to ballot counter. He hoped by more hard work, to rise higher and perhaps stand for office one day.

His own immediate family members seemed to be getting on board with his vision.

His mother Freya had gone out and got herself a job in a local bistro.

Freya had never worked, but with Owen wanting them to be waited on hand and foot she had felt the time was right. Freya loved cooking and this way she would be able to continue cooking and earn money for it.

Harriet was now sixteen and looking to the time when she finished school.

Owen was keen to see her well married and on that score had introduced her to Jeremy Weasley.

Owen had been delivering campaign leaflets and had got into a conversation with Jeremy at his mansion. It was clear that Jeremy was very rich and on enquiring about him from Nichole it seemed he was well connected. Merlin made an effort to get to know him and then introduced him to his sister Harriet.

Jeremy was almost sixty and Harriet only sixteen. Yet Owen felt that an alliance with him would be a thing worth having and establish their family as a major power in the neighbourhood. Also on Jeremy's death Harriet would be a very wealthy woman.

The wider River family was continuing to grow. Marie Curie had given birth to her fourth baby boy and named him Faraday.

Whilst Merlin's sister Gwen had surprised them all by having twin girls.

Owen felt that next few years would be crucial both at work and at home. With that in mind he had decided that the time was still not right for him to marry Martha. For now his energies needed to be concentrated elsewhere to ensure the success of his schemes.
