Merlin stood looking out across the sand at the massive form of the Pyramids, it felt good to be back in Egypt.
Merlin had decided it was time to enjoy life again. It had been five years since he had lost his wife and he was nearing ninety. There was no knowing how long he had left, though as yet he was very fit and active. He had decided to take a holiday to Egypt while he still could.
Life at home had become staid and he wanted something new. He loved his family but he felt like he needed a new adventure.
Merlin had visited Egypt as a young man with his younger sister Gwen.
Then the reason for his visit had been to distract his sister from the death of their father. It was in Egypt that Gwen had met her husband Youssef Nagi.
Merlin had been sceptical about the romance, but Gwen and Youssef were still happily married now. He had remembered how Gwen had said it had been love at first sight.
His own lightning bolt moment had happened when he had walked into the market one day.
There she was just standing there, but something about her drew his gaze and he found himself walking over and introducing himself.
Her name was Aisha and Merlin was captivated. All he knew was that is a very few days he was head over heels in love.
He hadn't expected to feel this way again at his age and especially not with someone so young in comparison to himself.
It seemed to the young lady felt the same as him. After a lovely evening spent out at remote spot where Merlin had set up his tent he was surprised when kissing Aisha rather passionately she hadn't rejected him but he had found himself being led into his tent. He awoke in the morning by her side marvelling at what had happened.
A little voice deep down did tell him that perhaps she was after his money rather than him but even if this was so he didn't care. She made him happier than he had been in ages.
When the time drew near for him to go home he didn't know how to say goodbye. It had been a two week holiday but so much had changed in that time.
Merlin felt it was wise not to promise anything for the future, but to go home and try and evaluate what had happened before taking any rash steps. Although he didn't know how he would face going back to his normal life after this.
