Chapter 48 - Merlin's Prom

Prom time was here again for the River household and the three teens, Merlin, Freya and Gwen were going.

Outfits were chosen.

None of the young people had dates but hoped to enjoy themselves none the less.

A limo was ordered and took them down to the school on the Monday night.

Gwen had mixed success. She was named the Prom Queen, which was a great honour. With her queen status she plucked up her courage and asked a cute guy in her class to dance. He turned her down, much to the amusement of his friends, who sniggered openly. At this point Gwen wished the ground would open up and swallow her.

Merlin and Freya had a more pleasant evening. Merlin had seriously considered asking one of the pretty girls in his class to go with him, but although they would have looked good on his arm they just weren't any fun. He enjoyed much more hanging out with his best friend Freya. In fact Merlin was glad that Freya had come alone, he had wondered if she might have come as Rowan's date.

Freya had been asked out by Rowan and had even gone on a date with him.

She hadn't said too much about it and Merlin although very curious hadn't asked her for details.

At the prom, Freya was good fun and made Merlin laugh loads. They both pranced around the dance floor doing silly dance, after silly dance. They had made it into the middle of the floor when the music suddenly changed to a slow song. There was no escape as couples formed around them. Merlin offered Freya his hand and found himself staring into Freya's startling blue eyes.

The smile faded from his face and Merlin looked deeply into her eyes. Suddenly he felt as if she was too close and the room was too warm. There was no escape with couples pressing around them on all sides.

Merlin found his gaze leaving Freya's eyes and being drawn down to her lips. He found a powerful urge to lean forward and kiss her. The next second, the lights went up and the band announced they were stopping for a break.

The spell was broken and they went to find a drink, but the incident left Merlin feeling uneasy for the rest of the night. He couldn't joke so light heartedly with Freya any more and kept his distance from her, in case the strange thoughts returned with her closeness. All in all Merlin was glad when it was time to go home. A good nights sleep he told himself was what he needed.

Waking the next day covered in sweat, he remembered his dream with a groan. He had been dancing with Freya and this time the lights hadn't come up and he had kissed her. Shaking his head he got up. She was his best mate, this was all some kind of prom induced madness and in a few days would be forgotten. He walked into the dining room and Freya was sitting at the table eating her breakfast. Merlin's heart gave a little leap as if he had missed a step going downstairs.

Lovely outfits, a Chinese theme to the first two. Gwen looks lovely. No idea why the silly boy would say no. I'm glad she was prom queen through.

Merlin’s got his priorities straight. Much better to hang around with Freya. Much better to be with someone who you have fun with and have things in common with. It's interesting that he has started to fall for her. How friendships change.

Merlin is growing up.......it seems but yesterday he was a baby......

So cute that Freya gives him butterflies but will she feel the same…...

  2. Should they start best mates or do they both want it to be something more?

Those DJs aren't very good. Moving quickly from the fun ones to a slow, romantic one and then straight into a break! Don't get them back!
