Chapter 10 - Albin's Prom

Albin had been a quiet child and had not made many friends at school, although he had invited some of the local children over to his birthday parties and one of these was Rosalyn Houle.

As a teen he would still sometimes say hi to her and she always had a smile for him. So it was Rosalyn that he thought of first when they announced that they were to have a Prom at school. Albin would rather not have had to find a date and spend the evening dancing, but he felt that if he didn't go he might face teasing and ridicule at school.

Albin had not yet begun to take an interest in girls and so he was hoping that Rosalyn would go along to the event as his friend.

The first problem would be how to ask her. At school she had her friends around her and he didn't want to ask her there in case she said no. He decided to ask her over to his house to work on their science homework, even this caused wolf whistling among her friends, but he ignored them. After a few hours working on their homework, Rosalyn noticed the time and said very reluctantly that she had best get home.

Albin walked out with her and asked her to wait a minute. Rosalyn turned and looked inquiringly at Albin.

Albin spoke very quickly "I was wondering if you wanted to be my date for the prom?" 

Rosalyn's face broke into a smile and she beamed back at him. "Of course I will, well see you tomorrow then Albin". She smiled one last time and walked home.

Albin felt as if a great weight had been lifted from his shoulders. For the prom he decided to look more contemporary and bought himself a red suit with his winnings from the horse race.

He seemed to have made a good choice as Rosayln's passed an approving gaze when he picked her up.

The evening started well and Albin was enjoying himself. He had never seen a live band and was relieved to discover that his dancing was no worse than the other boys there. Rosalyn was easy to talk to and they had fun abusing the teachers at school. 

But then things got out of control.The music slowed down and it was clearly meant for couples. Albin found that he and Rosalyn were in the middle of the dance floor. He looked about for a means of escape, but Rosalyn took the opportunity to snuggle in close and they became one of the slowly moving couples. After a few minutes he looked down at her meaning to ask her if she wanted a drink so they could escape, but she mistook his gaze and leaning up towards him she kissed him. Stunned, he just let it happen. He had never kissed a girl before. After the dance she led him dazed back across the floor and he murmured he would get her a drink. When he came back holding her coke he heard her telling a group of people about the kiss. It sounded different the way she told it. According to her he had leaned in looking deeply in her eyes before giving her a kiss that thrilled her. Looking up she saw him and said "Thank's for the drink, don't I have the best boyfriend?"

That was that. He couldn't say anything with all those people watching him. One the plus side his fellow students voted him the Prom King and he felt that Rosalyn's story must have contributed to this. He snuck into the house that night placing the crown and his Prom photo that Rosalyn had insisted they had, on the table. 

It had been a busy evening and he wasn't quite sure where to go from here, this hadn't been how he had planned his evening.  Rosalyn was pretty that was for sure and a good kisser, Albin decided the best thing to do would be to see how things went.
