Chapter 9 - Patches

Albin still found that Patches took his breath away.

He couldn't quite remember when he had first realised that he wanted a horse. It had begun with
him going to watch races at the newly opened Equestrian centre. He hadn't ever seen a horse till then. Something about them attracted him from the first and then he decided he had to have one of his own and here she was his own Patches.

He had begun straight away learning to ride her and found that it was actually a lot harder than it looked.

The riders at the Equestrian centre looked so graceful on their back of their horses, but Albin felt as if he might slip off at any moment.  Still he was determined. He had set his mind to owning and riding a horse and would keep at it.

They had had a small stable for Patches constructed on one corner of their lot. Most of the time Patches was no trouble, however one day she was found eating her way through Little Feets prize Lettuce plants and Little Feet was not happy.

She gave both Patches and Albin a severe telling off.

Albin was surprised to discover there were also wild horses in the neighbourhood and Patches took the opportunity when Albin was at school to make an equine friend.

Albin and Patches worked hard training and after a few months were able to enter an beginners race together, which to their great excitement they won. Albin had been eyeing up other races such as Cross country and Jumping, sure that the horse he had chosen was the best there was.  He wasn't sure what he wanted to do for a career and wondered now if horse racing might be his vocation or just a fun profitable hobby.

  1. I love that Patches and his horse friend talked about rubber ducks.

It's great that Albin has got himself a good hobby. I’m glad it is going so well for him. Oppps, poor little feet's lettuces. Hopefully that was a once off.

I wonder if he can make a career out of his horse riding. Will be good to see how that develops. xxxxxxxxx

  2. What else would a horse talk about except rubber ducks ;)

If only it was a one off the horse won't stop. They make a lot of money to and its not like Patches is hungry she just seems to like doing it. Like a child she needs constant watching and amusing.

  3. Pets can be a handful - but Patches looks like she's a very rewarding handful.

Did they win any prize money from their race? Perhaps PAtches will grow to be a star?
